General Manager
Strategic and operational role, with diverse stakeholder engagement
Community centric; provide the best badminton experience in Wellington
Based at Wellington North Badminton Stadium, Tawa
Wellington North Badminton (WNBA) exists so that people in the greater Wellington north community can play and enjoy the game of Badminton. It’s a growing regional sports organisation, operating as an incorporated society; they strive to be the Association of choice in the Wellington region and are viewed as a leader amongst New Zealand’s Badminton Associations.
The WNBA Stadium in Tawa features six international-standard courts, changing rooms, a Pro shop and conference facilities.
The General Manager we are seeking will be an agile, inclusive leader who brings a clear, strategic perspective, an innovative approach to organisational growth, and well-honed relationship management skills.
You will continue to develop the profile of WNBA by building effective working relationships with the local community and key stakeholders, and proactively identifying new funding and partnership opportunities.
At a practical level, you will implement and monitor the strategic and annual business plans, provide future-focused insights that drive new thinking, and oversee the optimal development and promotion of all WNBA’s activities and programmes with the support of a small team. Your relationship with the Board will be critical, and you will operate on a ‘no surprises’ basis.
This is a permanent full time position for 37.5 hours per week; the incumbent currently works Tuesday to Saturday, however that is not the ongoing expectation. There is the need to be flexible, including the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
This is an exciting opportunity to make an important contribution to WNBA’s future, and could be suitable for either an experienced or emerging senior leader.
Person Profile:
Strong leadership experience with the ability to inspire teams and the wider WNBA community with vision
Ability to translate strategic direction as determined by the Board into successful operational initiatives
Community focussed, with a track record of success in, and a deep commitment to, building and maintaining exceptional stakeholder relationships
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to identify and maximise funding opportunities
Proven business acumen and financial literacy
A consultative and open style with a transparent approach
A genuine passion for the power of sport and physical activity; some sports organisation experience is preferred, and involvement in Badminton would be advantageous
